Follow these 8 sacred steps in the correct order for an auspicious housewarming
Begin by invoking Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles. The family takes a sankalp (resolve) to perform the pooja with devotion. Light a diya and offer durva grass & modak.
Install the sacred kalash with water, mango leaves, and coconut. The priest chants Punyaha Vachan for purification of the new home and the family members.
Pacify the nine planetary deities to ensure harmony. Each graha is worshipped with specific mantras, offerings, and samagri as per your family's janma rashi.
Correct any Vastu imbalances in the new home. Salt, camphor, and Vastu-specific yantras are placed in the appropriate directions to harmonize energy flow.
A sacred fire ceremony is performed with samagri offerings (ghee, havan samagri, herbs). The Purnahuti (final offering) completes the havan and seals the blessings.
The lady of the house enters first with the right foot, holding a kalash of water and rice. She gently pushes a pot of rice at the threshold โ symbolizing prosperity entering the home.
Many families include the Satyanarayan Katha after Griha Pravesh for wealth, harmony, and family wellbeing. It adds 45โ60 minutes to the ceremony.
The ceremony concludes with aarti of the entire family, distribution of prasad, and blessings from Pandit Ji. A small meal or sweets are offered to guests and helpers.

Little things that make a big difference to your Griha Pravesh ceremony
Popular muhurat dates get filled quickly. Reserve Pandit Ji at least 10โ15 days before your preferred date, especially during Vaishakha and Kartik.
Ensure the main door is fully installed and functional before the ceremony. The entry ritual depends on the door โ no temporary doors.
Have the home cleaned, whitewashed, or freshly painted at least 2 days before. The Griha Pravesh should happen in a fully ready, beautiful space.
Use a brass or copper kalash (not steel) for Kalash Sthapana. Fill with clean water, add mango leaves and coconut โ this is the energy center of the pooja.
Griha Pravesh is best done with close family members in attendance. A small, focused gathering maintains the sanctity and keeps the ceremony peaceful.
All family members should wear new or freshly cleaned traditional attire in light, auspicious colors โ yellow, red, or cream. Avoid black.
Keep a separate thali with roli, moli, akshat, flowers, diya, dhoop, and prasad. This speeds up the ceremony and keeps everything organized.
Offer a simple satvik meal to guests and the Pandit after the pooja. Kheer, puri, and sabzi are traditional and considered auspicious.
Not sure what to buy? Ask Pandit Ji for the exact samagri list โ or request that he bring everything for a small additional cost.
